My windows date-format default setting is dd/mm/yyyy
I have an application which requires the format to be in yyyy/mm/dd, which I did make the change in windows settings.
However I noticed that the change will be reverted back from yyyy/mm/dd back to dd/mm/yyyy automatically after some time.
As such I wish to know if there were ways to make the change permanent. Thank you.
Hi, don't know why it would reset, I'm afraid, but here's an idea:
a. set the format:
Change Date and Time Formats in Windows 10
(Settings or C. Panel)
b. disable change
Enable or Disable Changing Date and Time Formats in Windows
(See reg file option if using Home)
thank you dalchina...I've made the changes and watching if the reverting will happen again.
Effectiveness of the fix cannot be seen immediately as, like I said, the reverting happened in random..

I know this is an old thread, but I landed here because I'm trying to figure out how to set Windows to use date format yyyy/mm/dd.
That option does not exist for me. The closest option is yyyy-mm-dd.
I'm trying to troubleshoot an issue for a Chinese user that sent me the following screenshot. I can change my system language to Chinese, but I haven't figured out how to get the date format to yyyy/mm/dd.
Once I figure that out, the next challenge to is get it to change in Edge. Even when I set it to yyyy-mm-dd it still remains as mm/dd/yyyy in Edge, even when I've got the system set to Chinese.

The general answer for everyone else:
You can't set custom date/time formats in the normal System Settings interface, but it's possible using the Control Panel. Click on Additional settings... and then manually type whatever format you want in the Customize Format boxes.
Good tip, but not the solution in my case. In order for Edge to use a different date format, the entire region has to be changed. Once I set both the language and region to Chinese, the yyyy/mm/dd date format became the default everywhere, including Edge. An interesting tidbit is that the menu of date formats includes yyyy/mm/dd when the region is set to China, but does not include that format for most other regions.
