How to add columns to the windows explorer "search" pane?

So i needed to add "dimensions" and "frame width/frame height" to my file explorer windows by default.

    I accomplished this.

It doesnt seem to apply when searching however. I opened the folder options and the option "apply" is greyed out.

    Is this simply not possible?

Add the desired columns in the Search Results folder, Explorer should remember your preferences...

tried again, apply to folders is still greyed out. Thats the means in which I got it saved to everything else. just not applying to the search results window.

I see you have Dimensions in there (1),

slide the horizontal scroll bar (2) to see if the rest of the attributes are there...

lol. ALMOST had me feeling stupid :P

Unfortunately I took that screenshot after having added it. I can add it, just closing the search window and trying to search again requires re-adding it, it doesnt save the column whereas if I go to any folder, its present perpetually.

im trying to get it to be present perpetually whenever I do a search

the window SS was meant to highlight that I cant select "apply to folders" like you can normally in non search windows. (at least in my case)

    Hmmm...,

Strange! It sticks for me, even survives a reboot!

I am using 'Old/New Explorer' though, I don't know if that has a bearing on it.

yea it is strange. frustrating. I'll have to look into this "old/new explorer" perhaps it'll kill two birds with one stone so to speak. Fix the issue AND i imagine theres a reason your using it relative to the standard.

An apparent solution is given in the thread Customize File Explorer Search Default Columns - TenForums You'll have to track back studying the exchanges between CraigHB & KeithM to see the whole story.

I had intended to try it out but have never found/made the time.

    Best of luck,

I just think the Ribbon looks horrible!!!
There's enough access to options in the Windows 7 style Command Bar and the right click context menu, etc.

    Try setting Sort By Name, Group By None;
set your view, columns and widths in the Search Results folder itself and walk away, forget the 'Apply to all folders' thing.
