How to make icons full width when opened in start bar?

    Hi,

I'm loving Win10 so far! Real improvement on Win7 (and most certainly on Win8, which I hated so much I went back!)

One thing I have noticed, that I can't seem to change... is how you set it so that icons in the start bar, go full sized once you open them? I liked that feature in Win7, as it was quicker to view what was open (without having to "read" the icons to work out what was what)

Any ideas? (I've attached a pic of what I mean)

    TIA

    Andy

Interestingly - on my 2 screens to the side it works as I would like (see attached)

Right click the taskbar > Properties
In the first tab there is a dropdown box "Taskbar buttons:"
I think you have selected "Always combine hide labels".
You want one of the other two options to see text labels as well as icons.

Actually, still one more bug bare :) My setup is 3 screens- with the middle one being primary.

    If I have (for example) Spotify open on the right hand screen, I get the program show up on the screen it IS on, as well as the primary screen (which isn't the desired effect, as I only want it to show on the screen its on);

Is there any way around this? Win7 didn't have this issue, but its been a while since I set that up - so I can't remember if I had to change anything on there to get it working how I want

    TIA

Just bumping this - as the icons on the primary screen is a bit annoying, so would like to know if there is anything I can do <G>

    Hi,

Seeing as I'm not getting any replies to the later question, I'll guess its due to the fact people don't understand what I'm on about I've done a screencast ( startbar.mp4 - Send Files Online - TempSend.com ), which shows my 3 screens in action. The middle is primary, and to start with it has:

    Screen 1:
    Nothing

    Screen 2: (middle, and primary)
    Chrome open
    Firefox open
    Text editor open

    Screen 3:
    Nothing

Now, I then drag Chrome into the left screen. You should see the "Chrome" icon in the toolbar show on the left screen once it moves. However, also notice that it REMAINS on the primary (screen 2), as an expanded icon.

    So the setup is now:

    Screen 1:
    Chrome open

    Screen 2: (middle, and primary)
Chrome - still shows as if its open on this screen - even though its not on there any more
    Firefox open
    Text editor open

    Screen 3:
    Nothing

    The ideal solution, is that:

    1) If the app is pinned to the taskbar, then it would simply revert back to the "small" icon (as if it wasn't open), but only on the primary screen
    2) If its not pinned to that screen, then it would FULLY move over to the screen it is now on - and not leave a clone of it on the primary

Please tell me this is possible? Its driving me up the wall how cluttered my primary screen is getting :/

    TIA

    Hello Andy,

I'm not sure if this may help, but check your Show taskbar buttons on settings in step 6 of OPTION ONE in the tutorial below to see if they are set to how you wanted. :)
