Desktop Selection Box has no Colour

    Hello,

Recently after modifying the registry key in "HKCU\Control Panel\Users" called "HotTrackingColor" to a green colour instead of the normal blue, instead of green, it doesn't even show blue anymore, just this: (See attached) I have looked on other forums and have had no luck with changing themes and accent colours, I have even reset that entire registry hive and still have had no luck.

    Please help. :)
    Regards,

Hi, do you have a suitable System Restore point you might be able to use to restore your system?

Do you use disk imaging routinely as is so often recomended here? e.g Macrium Reflect (free).
If you have a suitable Windows or image file, you can often restore that to fix many problems quickly without tech help to give yourself a second chance.

    Assuming you have neither.
it will be useful to distinguish between a user profile related problem and a Windows problem.
Please create a new user for test purposes only, log in as that user, and advise if you see the same problem.

If you do, I suggest you head straight for an in-place upgrade repair install which keeps all progs and data.
    Tutorial available.

Note you start that by logging in as normal.

For that you need an iso of the same build as you have installed (your specs don't say which).
To get older builds you can use the
    Heidoc iso downloader

I have an organisation's computer and I am restricted from making system restore points. I have tried making a second user account and this issue persists. I also later reinstalled Windows and still no luck. I also ran 'sfc -scannow' and it said there were problem it couldn't fix.

Thank you, I tried this and it worked. The problem has been solved. :)
