    Windows 10 [ how to setup a proper pagefile and swapfile.sys ]

    Hi people,

I hope this thread is placed by me at the right corner. Feel free, admins, to move it when it is not.

    Problem:

If I setup the advanced settings for virtual memory, only for use on my E: drive, (so C: on disabled) Windows do have the oddity to give me the following warning after rebooting windows:

"Windows created a temporary paging file"

Yes I know how I can fix that ... but:

    My question:

Can someone tell me how I can setup a proper page and swapfile for my E: drive and disable the one on the C: drive without the annoying "Windows created a temporary paging file" ? I tried powershell scripts, CMD scripts, the original Virtual Memory advanced page in Windows and some valuechanges in the regkey below:

The reg key where all is stored
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management
    and values:
    ExistingPageFiles (reg multi sz)
    PagingFiles (reg multi sz)

    Summarized:

I want a working E:\pagefile.sys and swapfile.sys and none on C: but Windows do not allow such hence the warning.. It sets each time that temporary on C:\.

    Cheers, Geeviz

I have no problems moving pagefile to other drive, but why would I do that? Any particular reason to move it?

Regarding your problem with temp pagefile..

is E: fixed, or external (removable drive)?

Is E: different drive, or different partition on the same drive?

Well, it is a bit of an experiment. I have managed to install win 10 arm to raspberry pi and that is slow, working on 938mb ram. For sd cards (flashdrive just as usb sticks) it is a disaster to have swap or pagefiles according to excessive writing (so sd cards will live shorter) so i would place those files on a more reliable disc, an external hdd to make the Rpi 'faster'. I know it never will become a Ferrari but maybe it helps a little bit. it gives some 'more memory'

(On normal fast computers with big ssd cards (no flash) and much mem those sys files are not needed.)

c drive is the flashdrive (sd card in the pi)
e drive is external 1tb harddisk

windows won't let me have it to have the files pagefile and swapfile only on E and none on C, hence the error with the temp file (written on c:\)

Looks like you have a problem there. Pagefile is initialized before USB drivers are loaded... you get the picture?

I would get larger SD and let Windows manage it. One thing may work. External SSD and set it to use Readyboost. USB stick too, but it is flash...
