If you don't select that option and folder view settings are retained as you have stated then surely that is what caused the problem. Or am I missing something?
Yes. The setting in ccleaner causing this problem is called folder view settings. If you check this setting, it will cause the folder views to be reset. You can check everything else, and the folder views won't be reset. Also, the latest version of ccleaner doesn't seem to have this setting. It only becomes available if you install ccenhancer. I hope this clarifies it.

It seems like some people has had their folder views reset, by checking the windows size and location cache setting in ccleaner. I did a test a couple of times, but it didn't seem to reset the folder views for me personally. Anyway, i have uninstalled ccleaner completely, so i can finish testing the automatic folder type discovery setting in winaero tweaker, just to see if that's a part of the problem as well.

as far as remembering folder layouts for removable media (unless i misread that on the first page...), you could try permanently assigning a drive letter to each device for windows to remember when it is reconnected and see if that retains all view settings for each device individually..

It seems like changing the drive letters does change the folder views as well, but im going to try disabling automatic folder type discovery first.

I have been testing it for some time, and it seems like the thing causing this is indeed checking the folder view settings in ccleaner. It might be worth it to disable automatic folder discovery, as well as unchecking windows size and location cache, just in case.
