Thanks Nommy,
Are you hard at work with Gimp tutorial ?
I heard there was a new version out 2.8.8 ?
I've got 2.8.6,
Cheers.
I'm currently learning for my exams at school, but as soon as I finished those I'll give it a go
Yeah, 2.8.8 recently released. I'm currently downloading it, but I plan to familiarize myself a bit before making the tut:)

I plan to make it a bit of a boarder tut, incorporating everything from how to make custom banners to how to properly add highlights and shadows and how to make them look good.

You asked me if I could try to incorporate the sig you made for Bill, but I don't have the font and don't know the layer styles used. I could give it a try, but I'd rather just explain bevel & emboss and show some examples so that you can figure it out for yourself

EDIT: Just had a quick go with GIMP, and darn! It might be that I'm used to PhotoShop, but IMHO it's horrible!
No layer styles, all keyboard shortcuts are messed up, interface is not exactly what I call user friendly. This will take some getting used to, expect the tut to take a while longer.

Thanks for not giving up on GIMP and finding the plugin we were both missing

No probs mate
With the layer styles script installed it's hella lot easier to use it, as I had to create every pesky drop shadow and inner glow by hand first, and since my average sig contains quite a few of those, that about doubled the time it took to make one-_-

Noticed the new sigs you made over at SF, maybe try to add a nice banner with rounded corners next?
Here's a template I made in GIMP (2600x600 px) you could use, ready with gradient, B&E and drop shadow;

Since I can't upload .rar or .zip files here yet, here's a Dropbox link to the .xcf file; File removed, will provide upon request.

You give me too much credit,
I have no idea what to do with a .rar file or what can read it,
Attempted to change the extension to .xcf and gimp couldn't open it ?
I'll do a search and see what comes up I know your busy,
Cheers.

You can just download the .rar file to your desktop:)
A .rar is a compressed folder that contains, well, stuff. This .rar contains the .xcf file of the banner. When downloaded to your desktop, simply right click it and select Extract Here.

If you don't have WinRAR or 7Zip installed you'll see the same option, only the icon will look like a normal folder icon with a zipper attached to it.

Well it doesn't look like a folder just a blank icon,
I'll download 7-zip and see if it works,
Thanks for the great videos and the file of course,
Cheers

No probs mate Glad everything is useful.

Now, lo and behold! My first ever signature created solely by GIMP!

Took me quite a while to achieve, and granted, I have used a tut to get the chrome-ish effect on my name correct, but once I knew how to do it, the rest was remarkably easy:)

You can remove the file now I've downloaded it/ three times to be exact lol :)
ie11 is working pretty good not much different than ie9 or 10,
Developer tools is funky but supposed to be more intuitive,
Browser mode is now user agent string but otherwise not to bad once I lowered my dpi to 125% instead of 130% funny that extra 5% made new tabs not want to scroll with the mouse wheel ?
Might have some new sigs in a couple days ,
beman36 really got me hooked on the chrome look
Cheers and thanks again

Lol I don't use IEops: I'm not that big a fan and lots of my plugins/scripts/themes won't work there.

Yeah, Beman knows his way with chrome effects. He actually was a GFX Team member back in the days.
It's as I said over at SF, the more you practice, the better you get, so make as many as you can I'd say
