    Windows 10 Folder Location Change

    Hi

Does anyone have experience of moving special folder locations to a NAS drive using a script.
    i.e.

    Current Location: C:\Users\[username].[pcname]\Favorites
    to
    \\MYSTORAGENAS\Username\Documents\Favorites

I am looking to speed up the process of moving the special folder location such as: My document, Music, Pictures, Favorites etc with aid of a script.

    Any help is much appreciated.

    Thank you

    @jl2509

Hi you can sync your Documents\Favorites folder with the built-in backup feature in windows 10.
    You don't need any script.

    All settings >
    Update & Security > Backup > + sign > Search all network locations > Your NAS >
    Done :)

Hi and thanks for the response.
However, I think you miss my point. A backup is not required, this is folder redirection.

NAS Drives and folders are mapped and the locations of the folders are moved to the mapped drives and folders.

The main reason here is the size of files located on the NAS drive vs physical HDD space on the laptop/PC

I have seen many questions about this subject but no answers really identifying a solution for using a powershell script. Thanks

    Hello @jl2509,

You could edit the .bat files in Option 2 below to see if they may be able to help for this. You would substitute your folder location.

You could use a batch file based on reg commands to alter the relevant entries in
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders

There are some useful examples and explanations in - Reg - TenForum examples

    ok,

I manage to resolve my plight with a bit of integration of scripts and some amendments to the scripts at the links below..
    https://stackoverflow.com/questions/...ith-powershell
    https://helgeklein.com/blog/2015/02/...ymbolic-links/

now with my power script to create mapped drives and folders, the automatic location changing is a breeze and is checked and initialized every time on startup.

    Thanks all.

What an interesting PS script. I hope you included that bit near the end of the thread where somebody provided code for checking that the intended path exists. Windows can get awkward if the path is changed to a non-existent one.

    Thanks,

absolutely. The script checks for existence, (online) and renews each login regardless as I have persistence set to off with a timeout duration set.

    thanks

    Hi,,
Have a similar requirement as yours but don't have the patience to go through all the text. I'm using a QNAP NAS as a Domain Controller for a project and need the user's Desktop and Document folders moved to the respective folders in a mapped folder so need a script for this to load into the NAS. How do I go about this without much fuss. Just need a simple script and it's done.

Your help will be much appreciated.

No solution but curious, would that be something akin to a Diskless Workstation?
