I cannot select start, taskbar, & action center in color settings.

    Hi,

updated to 1903, all went well. Until I selected another background theme, then my taskbar turned white
Now I cannot select Start, taskbar & action center in windows 10 color settings. It is grayed out.

If I change "choose your color" from Light to Dark Start, taskbar & action center is no longer grayed out. But I like Light.

Modding the registry entry: HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \ Themes \ Personalize ColorPrevalence to 1 places a check mark in the square, but it's still grayed out...
The taskbar is no longer white tho, it is now colored.

Ran sfc /scannow, DISM Restore Health. Both said all good.
Cannot find a Troubleshooter for the taskbar.

Added a local account, it & works perfectly.
any ideas how to get Start, taskbar & action center back with out going Dark?

    Thanks

    Hello dogpark,

It looks like if you select "Light" for "Choose your default Windows mode", you are unable to check/uncheck "Start, taskbar, and action center".

    Hi Brink,

    That is correct.

Yesterday after the upgrade to 1903 I changed wallpaper themes & my taskbar immediately went white.

I downloaded your bat file & gave that a try last night.
If the value in HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \ Themes \ Personalize ColorPrevalence is 0, then "Start, taskbar, and action center" is grayed out & I cannot change the taskbar color. It is white.

    If I change
ColorPrevalence to 1, then a check mark is automatically placed in "Start, taskbar, and action center" & the taskbar is no longer white. I can change taskbar colors, however "Start, taskbar, and action center" is still grayed out & I cannot uncheck it.

In Dark mode I have full control as I should.
"Start, taskbar, and action center" is not grayed out. I can check / uncheck it.

Using your tutorial for local account I created one & the taskbar colors work just as they should. "Start, taskbar, and action center" is not grayed out. Both Light & Dark mode.

This happened once before after an upgrade, I couldn't figure it out & eventually re-installed Windows.
Thought I'd ask beforehand this time.

p.s. I'm not using high contrast, aero (transparency, etc). A Dell D630, trying to keep resources low.

On the bright side I am now in triple digits on the post meter.
Took me years to get there on sevenforums.

    I also have this problem.
Upgraded to 1903 2 computers, and the "Start, taskbar, and action center" is not grayed out.
Clean installed 1903 on another PC and there it IS greyed out!
    Tried suggestions above without success.

    Hello Paul,

Please go ahead and post screenshots showing all of your Settings > Personalization > Colors settings to see if anything may stand out.

A few minutes later and solution found:
On the 'Colour' screen, select a custom colour, not light or dark. Then choose your default Windows mode as dark and default app mode as light. Now you can select Start, taskbar, and action center.
At least it did for me!
