    The Control Panel (Category View)

    Hi Guys,

Does anyone know the GUIDs for the Control Panel (Category View) applets:

I'm trying to customise these icons without using a third party software.

    Appreciate any advise / guidance.

    Hello Andrew,

In addition, the tutorial below can help with this.

Thank you both for your reply.

However Brink, I don't quite understand the tutorial. It says:

    The Control Panel (Category View)-instruction.jpg

How does that help me detect the GUID key of the applets, because doing what that tutorial says will only create a key under CLSID with the name of the applet, and not detect the applet's GUID.

    I don't get it.

You should be able to look at the registry entries using Option 2 to see the current "DefaultIcon" of the control panel item.

Option 1 is just for the current user, and the registry entries are not there by default.

My apologies, Brink but I still do not get it.

The steps for both options are identical, the only difference is the location of the desired icons will need to be accessible for all users for Option 2. That's it.

Moreover, both the Mail and Flash Player (32-bit) applets are not listed in the list of Control Panel items for both options.

    No worries.

You can use Option 2 to change the icon of the control panel items you want for all users, and see what current icon is being used.

Only administrators will be able to do this though.

I don't know the CLSID's for Mail and Flash Player (32-bit).

It's OK, Brink. I didn't think it would be as easy trying to find a way to achieve that. My search continues.

Thank you for all your help thus far.

    Have a good day.
