I want to delete "delete" from context menus.

I quite often hit delete when trying to paste or rename a file. They are simply too close together. Is there a way to remove the delete button from the menu or maybe move it to the bottom of the menu? I can use cut/paste to delete items. I have sometimes deleted entire folders by trying to paste a file into it. (Drag and drop quit working quite a while ago.) I'm on Win10/64.

Cut, Copy, Paste. You can copy and paste a paragraph using the original shortcutkeys: Ctrl+C for copy (or Ctrl+X for Cut), and then Ctrl+V for paste. The Ribbon shortcuts are Alt+H-C for Home, Copy (or Alt+H-C-C for Home, Copy, Copy in Excel) and Alt+H-X for Home, Cut in both Word and Excel’

    An interesting possible quirky fix:
Fix problem with drag and drop not working in Windows | Digital Citizen

Is that in only your current user? Do you see the same if you create a new user and log in as that user?

If so, you could try an in-place upgrade repair install which keeps all progs and data and most settings using an iso of the same build and base language as installed.

Found this. Add, Remove, Edit Context Menu items in Windows 10 with Context Menu Editors Don't know what, if any, on that page will help but it may be a starting point.

    I'll keep looking.

It happened to me too (loosing files), but it is core functionality hidden within shell32.dll

I have hated this with Windows for as long as I can remember. Its a PITA and an idiotic position to have it where it is, between rename and create a shortcut. Logically, why would you put delete between those two functions, when it warrants it own section?

What I'd like to do on the context menu is swap Delete and Properties (because you can rename from properties as well.)

And with delete at the bottom, I'd like to make it so that the menu slides out laterally with :Confirm Delete"

Something like this: (below is the bottom of context menu )
    _____________

    Create shortcut
    Properties
    Rename
    _____________

Delete | >>>>>>>>> Confirm Delete (Press Enter)
    ______________

But if it was a toss-up, like the original poster, I'd "delete" delete rather than have it in the context menu as it is.

    Thanks, TairikuOkami that helps!

And I guess being a core functionality it can't be changed at all, but if there is a Context editor or registry hack that allows 'Delete" to be moved or deleted, I'd love to find out more.

(PS. Thanks again to Brink and all the people who contribute to this forum. It's way better and smarter than the MS forum.)

    Hello @nextstep,

    Just for information.

Besides the excellent Tutorials etc here at TenForums, one of the best sites [ in my opinion ] for Tweaking & Customisations is Winaero. I have used it a LOT in the past for my goto place for customisations that are NOT covered here [ very rarely indeed now ].

    I hope this helps.

I find setting Delete to require a Confirmation is sufficient protection.

This looks very interesting. I will have an experiment in a few days. Thanks!

As long as you make sure it is enabled, because it isn't by default.

    Yes. Agreed!

Winaero is just about the first program I use when setting up a PC. It is extremely useful!
