It won't change when plugging in other peripherals.

at best you can statically replace it with a custom one editing the .dll where it's from, but you definitely cannot have it dynamically change when some event occur.

    Hello!

Yes, you can make it look like Windows 7 or 8 or whatever other icon you want. You have to download Customizer God and then open the file C:\Windows\System32\SndVolSSO.dll You have to replace all the icons from mute to full volume, otherwise you will see the original icon according to volume level. After the replacement is done, restart Windows Explorer or your computer to see the difference. With Customizer God you can change all the common icons, as long as you edit the appropriate .DLL file. For the battery icons you edit batmeter.dll, for common folder etc icons you edit imageres.dll, for the network icons you edit pnidui.dll, and for the USB device icon you edit stobject.dll

If you have access to a Windows 7 or 8 computer you can extract the icons from the respective .DLL file using Customizer God. If you want to use custom icons you need to have .ICO files, I'm not sure if you can use any other format (.BMP or .JPG). There are tools to convert a .BMP to .ICO, just Google.

WARNING! Never edit shell32.dll or Windows will prevent you from login.
