Control title bar color via registry?

Hi. Is there a way to control the title bar color via the registry? I want to set a certain color for title bars (of windows, the browser) only. Thanks.

Hi tomseys, Brink's tutorial below may be the one you are looking for.

Thanks ethel. That looks more like if you want to change the inactive title bar color. I want to change the active color via registry if possible. I'd like to be able to set it independently of every other thing.

The reason I want to do this is because in 1809, there is a change in how Personalization yields colors on title bars. In versions 1803 and prior, the title bar color was a lighter color than the taskbar color. So for example if you choose the Windows 10 background.. which is a blue background, and then let windows pick the accent color, in the past, the color it used for title bars was a lighter blue than what it chose for the taskbar. Now in 1809 it is darker or the same as the taskbar. It doesn't look that good to me.

If I choose the same color it would use in the past for title bars as my accent color...a customized color, it makes the taskbar and the startmenu a very light blue and the contrast is poor.

I can use a theme for firefox to get around this with the browser but I'd like to if possible just set the light blue I am used to for all titlebars without that color dictating how other colors behave like on the startmenu taskbar etc.

Was wondering if there was some registry override to just control the title bars and let windows pick the colors it does based off the accent for taskbar and startmenu. Those colors are fine and what it normally does in 1803 etc. It is just the title bar that is very dark and that has changed in 1809.

Hi, Something I just thought of. If you go in the Settings,Personalisation,Colours, then click on Custom Colour, more,
and there is a slider to adjust the darkness of the blue.Control title bar color via registry-capture1.pngControl title bar color via registry-capture2.png

Yeah, the problem I'm having, is when I adjust the color to get the light blue I want on title bars, (you can also use the hex number from more.... ), the color is then fine on the title bars... but the taskbar has gotten too light of a blue as well as the start menu. When I make the color lighter via customization... everything gets lighter (taskbar/start menu) not just the element I want (title bar).

In other words, the way it is now on 1809... when I let windows pick the blue accent color from the blue win 10 background.... it picks a good blue color for the taskbar and start menu... the colors it has always picked since I've used windows 10... but it picks a very dark blue for title bar... this is the change since it always picked a light blue color for title bars.

If I try and change the color to make it lighter so the title bar is lighter blue via the slider or hex number... it also makes the taskbar lighter and start menu lighter blue instead of the darker i want for those ... so to fix one hurts the other.

I would like to control them independently of each other if possible. Maybe if there is a way to set colors for title bar and task bar and start menu in registry.. and have them not influence each other.

That tool in the thread might be something... I have to read more about that.

Hi, you'd need to separate the control- options bottom right:

Then you could use this free tool (SMACC) from this forum by Superfly:

Thanks dalchina and ethel for the information. I'm going to work on this when I have a little more time...I put my laptop back to 1803 but my netbook is still on 1809. Thanks again.

Added: I think I am going to make another thread about this... one with a better title to the thread and a better description of the issue... whichI believe may be a little discussed bug in Windows 10 version 1809 and how it handles accent colors.
