    Shell Extension for Wildcard Selection

    Good afternoon all.

Please see this article codeproject dated around 2002 providing binaries and code to a wildcard selection right context menu option. As far as I know, this functionality is not native to the Explorer GUI, only the command, correct?

Windows Explorer wildcard selection shell extension - CodeProject

This code is obviously rather old and I am wondering if anyone has written a bat/vbs/reg file to incorporate wild card selection to the right click context menu or know of an easy way to modify the existing code. FYI, I am not a coder, just an end user and defer to the expertise of regulars in this forum.

    Thanks!

I think the modern equivalent 'function' would be to use File explorer's search bar or a third-party facility [such as NirSoft SearchMyFiles] and then select all of its results.

Better File Select may do the job. Found it by chance in a Google search. Site confirms Win10 compatibility with X64 installation binaries.

What do you want to do with the selected files? Check out Fileseek. It adds a right click context menu.

What I really want to do is enhance the functionality of Explorer by adding a wildcard selection that resembles the code in the first post function to the right-click context menu and/or ribbon for standard file management purposes (i.e., copy, move, delete). In fact, such a function complement complement the "Select All" functionality already present in Explorer with arbitrary criteria....say select just certain filenames, partial filenames, etc. This application (could be a reg file, vbs script, etc.) would preferably small and unobtrusive. The Better File Select might work (have not tried it yet). The FileSeek might work too, need to look further. What I really wondered if there was a small tweak out there someone is aware of or an ambitious coder might be able to adapt the old code in the first post for Windows 10 (I am not a coder by any means).

Thanks for explaining. I can't help with the code. Personally I would use FileSeek for wildcard searches via context menu. Then I would use NexusFile for wildcard filters and file operations but there is no option to add to Explorer context menu. So you'd need to navigate to a folder.

Sorry to resurrect an old post. I found some code for a wildcard selection option. But I am no coding expert. Any recommendations of someone that can code shell extensions? Thanks!
