How do I fix the extremely long desktop background change length?

Does it take as long even when you use 3rd party tools, like an image viewer, to set the background?

Thanks for the response, I did test out windows photo, acdsee and no change in behavior. there is still a 5-8 second freeze while the wallpaper changes.

How about using a dummy account to test?

No disk errors, I did create a test user account but that did not seem to fix the issue. I believe the issue might be caused by cloning the windows drive, I really cant think of anything else that might be an issue..

The only time I see more than about a 2 or 3 seconds delay is when the background image is stored on a different drive.

If there's no disk check error, apparently, some process introduced along the way of image access must be causing the relative delay. Unless, it's a hardware issue, such as the HD, but this should affect everything else.

How about changing location of the images? How about in safe mode (though I don't know if you can do that)?

have done changing the location of image but same issue.
