    Mouse pointer schemes not sticking in Windows 1809

    I've set my mouse scheme to standard/classic in mouse settings and have also modified the reg key to prevent theme changes (Allow or Prevent Themes to Change Mouse Pointers in Windows 10 | Windows 10 Tutorials) but still I'm getting the default spinning blue loading wheel instead of the classic mouse schemes hour glass. The rest of the mouse scheme seems to be working, it's just the loading wheel that's still on default.

    You need to 'Normal Select>Browse>select>open>apply' to get way from the loading circle.
    Unless you have done this....

    @Penny K

    I'm not exactly sure what you mean.. I have selected the Windows Standard (large) (system scheme) in Mouse properties just as in your screenshot but still I continue to see the blue loading wheel instead..

    What shows in the menu under 'Busy'?

    Maybe try a different scheme and go back again.

    1809 gave me a bug that sorted itself out by starting a guest account, then I deleted it.
    It was the desktop theme and profile pic was the same for the user and administrator account.
    Works fine now, separate desktops, themes and profile pics.
    Start a user account and see if the bug replicates itself.
    If it does replicate itself, a repair install may be necessary, this is what I have to do to fix my other 1809 problem.
    Windows ISO in a USB drive, repair windows install, keeps some of your programs and files in place.
    Backup before you start.
    I can point you in the direction of an 1809 ISO DL if you cant find it.

    What happens if you choose a diffrent .ani for the spinning blue loading wheel, save and load something up?
    Does it still reverte back to the default spinning blue loading wheel or does it keep the new .ani ?

    If you load a diffrent scheme and load up something does it keep the new mouse pointers ?
    If yes, you could always try to just modify the current scheme you have to the prefered animations.

    I suspected this might be related to the 1809 upgrade I received as it occurred there about's after the upgrade. The way you describe the issue you encountered makes it sound like the user profiles may have been corrupted.

    I will test a new user account which might help to verify that. I did grab the 1809 MCT before the news broke of missing files etc. I will probably wait for an updated MCT before attempting a repair installation. Thanks for the input.

    @xTL and @ Edwin

    This is what my mouse schemes look like. I have loaded another scheme to see whether I still get the blue loading wheel.

    The problem seems to be when I click the Use Default button. It's only after that that I get the blue loading wheel.

    On the Windows Standard (large) scheme the use default button is supposed to make it the default small hour glass, instead it's interpreting use default as the blue loading wheel. This may be a 1809 bug.
