After the latest 'big' update, how do I get the file explorer windows (This PC folders, etc) to stay white? If I select the dark theme, it changes everything to black. I only want the Windows settings window to remain dark/black...
Like I only want this white, everything else black....
Hi, you might try Qttabbar (free) - this has options to colour explorer-related backgrounds as you wish.
No idea if it works in the context of the dark theme in particular.

I was about to make this topic. Same here I hate dark explorer it looks so ugly and I can see graphical errors that are so comical that they did not fix them.
Google was useless as usual all I got was new dark mode and how they love it but no way to just turn it off in explorer. I tried Winaero which turned explorer white except for the title bar but a log out or reboot makes it black again.
However some apps like Mail and Feedback hub let you set a black background in settings so I am doing that for now but for some stupid reason the Store app has no such setting.
I'm in an even worse case and i can't find any solution :P
some other folders properly show white fonts but some look like that and they are unreadable obviously. do you have that problem ?
FWIW ... I tried to use Mach2 to disable the File Explorer Dark Theme with no luck, even after a reboot.
It's really an eyesore. I wonder why articles and reviewers were so excited when this was available in the insider builds. Custom themes are waaaaay better than microsoft's implementation.
Wow that is bad. Talk about poor QC. I am tempted myself to go back to a 3rd party file explorer.
Also all I can find is stupid articles telling you how to enable the horrible dark explorer. When I updated to RS5 dark explorer was already enabled and I hated it. Now look at the Edge browser dark explorer looks good there but in the flat no fluent design of explorer it looks like they just reversed the colors from white to black.
i want add my voice to you, i reverted to white theme because this dark explorer looking really ugly
i hope microsoft revert back to previous colour theme when only settings are dark, or give ability to choose colour for individual parts.
