Set "Open" and "Save As" windows view to "List" instead of "Details"?

Is it possible to change "Open" and "Save As" windows view to "List" instead of "Details" globally without having to set List view in File Explorer? I would like to use Details view in File Explorer and List view for "Open" and "Save As" windows.

Can this be done via the Registry?

Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately neither left CTRL, nor right CTRL do the trick.

It worked for me using Wordpad; I opened a folder on another drive- that appeared in Details view.
    I selected Content view.
I then pressed left CTRL and closed the dialogue box.

    I closed Wordpad, launched it.
I opened the same folder (using a Favourites drop down added by Actual Window Manager)
    The folder view was Contents

    I tried Notepad.
Again the folder view was Contents.

N.B. expect this to only apply to open/save boxes native to windows.
Many programs may provide open/save boxes that look similar, but actually are not.
And some provide ones that are clearly custom. Thus this quest may not be particularly fruitful.

What you're doing works even without pressing the CTRL button.

But as I said in the first post, I want to change the view settings globally.

I know what you want. I have explained why that is very unlikely. It's a tough, tough, world.

You must prepare yourself for disappointment.

In case anyone is looking for the answer to this old post, which is still easily found online.

    To set DEFAULT view settings

    Open Folder (any folder)

    Click VIEW tab

Click LIST (to change view to List view)

Click OPTIONS arrow to right side of screen

Click CHANGE FOLDER AND SEARCH OPTIONS

Pop-Up Window Should Open. In popup window:

    Click VIEW tab

    Click APPLY TO FOLDERS button

    Another popup window opens asking:
"Do you want all folders of this type to match this folder's view settings?"

Click YES to set as DEFAULT view setting.

    ----------------------------------------------------------

These settings may not affect Acrobat.

Hi. Welcome to TenForums. Apply to Folders is great to set custom defaults for the various FolderTypes, but the settings are common to both Explorer and Common Dialog views.

The OP here wanted List mode for dialogs while preserving Details view in folders. I crakced this puzzle for another thread and posted an explanation and sample code here:

How to enforce "Details" view in Windows File Select Dialog?
