I just want a tabbed, dark explorer without issues

For some reason, it is unearthly hard to get a tabbed, dark explorer that doesn't cause UI problems elsewhere. You had to jump through hoops to use 'Sets' in Insider, and now they've disabled it completely to where you can't use Mach2 to re-enable it, even though the feature was pretty damn stable in 17704, the last build to have it (though it wasn't supposed to).

There are custom themes out there, but they tend to break context menus in programs that try to have their own custom context menus.

For tabs, you either have to use the ancient QTTabBar or the Chinese adware-riddled Clover.

I'm just so frustrated, why is it so hard to get these two things at the same time?

It may be ancient but it works well!

Not for much longer. It's broken on RS5 and the RS5 update is going to be live to all users soon

Yeah, there's some layers that are screwed up in previews and options due to MS's insistence on messing around with Windows' DWM!!!

But, for the most part, it still works well...

Considering how long we've requested for a dark explorer, I'd say it's justified.

Parts where it's screwed up happened to be parts I used, so it's not really a good solution unfortunately. QTTabBar's sourcecode was never released for some reason so I fear things are going to suck until someone codes a replacement or Sets is brought back. (It's so dumb that they put it off.)

Does anybody know what happened to QTTabBar? Did the creator just give up or just vanish completely without warning?

    There's Quizo's..
    QTTabBar - QuizoApps
    - the one on Sourceforge seems dead..
QTTabBar | Reviews for QTTabBar at SourceForge.net
    code
    https://sourceforge.net/p/qttabbar/c...AD/tree/trunk/

As you probably know there are 3rd party file managers such as Directory Opus, XYplorer, Free Commander etc, but setting these as default file manager isn't a complete solution.

afraid that Quizo's is not going to be functional as soon as ths RS5 changes go live, and there is no source code for the Quizo's version.

Essentially someone would have to fork the much older sourceforge code...

I guess I'd end up using a 3rd party solution, which I used to before using Qttabbar.

    - this allows a lot of customisation, as, I seem to recall, does Directory Opus.

Yeah - it is very frustrating that SETS has been removed which gave us tabs in File Explorer, even though SETS was supposed to be a lot more, but I strongly suspect most people would only use tabs in FE anyway.

Why on earth MS could not have developed that first as a PRELUDE to SETS is beyond me. Sometimes Baby Steps is the way forward.
