I know screensavers are not necessary, I have 100 000 photos, and I like nothing better than the screensaver
to come on after a while to enjoy these photos at random with a cup of coffee. So although definitely not
    necessary, still serves a purpose
Similar situation here. I have an arcade cabinet and when it's in "attract" or "marquee" mode, I like to have it cycling through pictures that are related to classic video games. The purpose is not to save my screen, but rather because it looks really cool in my man cave.

What I wound up doing was creating a new toolbar and adding the Google Photo screen saver to it so that I can fire up my screen saver with one click. It's not ideal, but it's better than nothing.

Exactly what I did darthclem !

Extracted the screensaver from the Picasa program and made a shortcut to it.

Sometimes Win10 will start it automatically now, others I manually start it.

Update: Never mind. This solution worked for 24 hours; then back to 1 minute. Sorry. This doesn't work either.

I think I may have discovered the solution....
Make sure you are signed in as administrator

    Control Panel/Power Options/
[Click on the power option selected] "Change plan settings"
    Advanced Settings
    [scroll down to "Display"]
    Click on Display
Console Lock Display Off --- set this to the number of minutes before screensaver kicks in
    Apply

Tried that out, but sadly: it didn't work for me... Never mind... Thanks for the post...

I'm still working on getting the screen saver to work on my arcade cabinet, but I figured out the culprit on my desktop, which I will share in the hope that it might help others.

Within Device Manager under Human Interface Devices, there are 3 different entries for my Razer Nostromo. One is called "Nostromo Input Device", then there are two labeled "Razer Nostromo". I disabled the second instance of "Razer Nostromo" and the screen saver started working. I rebooted and the delay time for the screen saver stayed the same as I had set it and the screen saver still worked fine. As a bonus, the Nostromo also still works fine.

Also, I found that I had to disable, rather than uninstall, the trouble maker device. If I uninstall it, it reinstalls after a reboot.

So for those of you who haven't tried disabling devices with Human Interface Devices, it might be worth your time...
    This method works fine.
I found that if I disconnect wireless Xbox controller (unplug receiver) - screensaver in Windows 10 Pro works fine (starts automatically after time I set).
To disable wireless Xbox controller in device manager don't makes any sense. Why to connect it to PC if you must keep it disabled ?!
To install Win7 64bit drivers for this device - don't makes any difference (screensaver still don't starts itself): this hardware is not fully compatible with Windows 10.
I hope Microsoft will take care of this issue.

If precisely, it is: 2.4G wireless controller & receiver for Xbox 360/PC.

You have been reading this entire thread. Right? You might have left the "hardware not compatible" comment out of your statement, if you had. Besides, if it was a hardware compatibility issue, the device should have been listed as incompatible when the pre-evaluation was done (before we got our free update). It wasn't listed as an issue or concern. No. The fault was in the decision to view joystick activity as a user being active on the computer.

By the way, joysticks still work correctly in Windows 10. It's Windows 10 that behaves improperly when they are being used. No screen saver or power management isn't a fault of hardware that actually is working properly (even according to the Device Manager in Windows 10).

I don't have a joystick; I don't have an xbox.... Guess what? I still have intermittent issue with the screensaver not working. This is a bug in Win 10 code.

    It is quite possible.

Just wanted to share my issues and resolution with everyone. At first I thought it might be related to multiple displays, but that wasn't the case. I removed all peripherals sans the keyboard and screen saver issue still occured.

So after more reading in this thread, Thank You, I decided to disable all the "HID - compliant*" devices under Human Interface Devices. And what do you know, the screensaver now works.

My next step will be to go through all the disabled devices and try and track down what they are related too. I have an X360 controller, keyboard, mouse and joystick currently connected and want to find out which "HID" device was causing the issue.

The issue might not be vendor specific, but might be Microsoft based driver related for a certain input. I'm guessing there might be an issue with the driver constantly keeping the comms open with the device, hence not allowing power savings or the SS to work.

I'll update this as I figure out what the culprit might be.

    Thanks

Now, if only there was a common cure for the screen saver delay being reset to 1 minute. That seems to be another area of issue.

I think the "comms open" is exactly the issue with joysticks preventing standard functionality from activating. If the decision was to view joystick activity as a person using the computer, then all of the analog controls which fluctuate are going to constantly reset that timer. Joysticks are not new technology. Not even pseudo-analog joysticks are new. As such, they weren't exactly unknown territory with unknown issues. Still, you did find the source of the issue you were having, and that's the good part.

Thank you for not saying it was hardware that incompatible with Windows 10.
