I have not used a Screen Saver since I got a LED backlit flat screen monitor. Unless yours has a tube it is not necessary and a waste of resources.
True enough. Guess I am not that worried by it but it drives me nuts because it was a function that did work prior to Windows 10 update and is offered in Windows 10 so it should work - but it doesn't.

Went out to eat, followed by a trip to the grocery store, came back home and screen saver had gone active and LCDs were in stand-by mode. So, without touching the mouse or keyboard, I made certain that serial communication went through the USB-to-RS232 adapter. LCDs remained powered down. Best guess I have, now, is that joysticks are considered system activity along with keyboards and mice. Unless Microsoft gets an overwhelming flood of complaints about joysticks keeping screen savers and power saving functions from working, people will have to accept this as literally "working as intended".

I can say that my system being "fixed" has survived a couple reboots. It's just a matter of deciding if I really like Windows 10 Pro vs Windows 7 Ultimate. The appearance of Windows 10 looks really lame to me. There's next to nothing for the window borders. The title bar is a fixed color, too. If WindowBlinds gets an update for Windows 10, I'm very likely to get it. That is, if I prefer the rest of Windows 10 (like DX12, for example).

DX12 is the only thing tempting me back to Windows 10. Luckily, until a game supporting it is released (and that I want) I now have no desire to move across too it.

    Long live Windows 8.1!

I wonder if it Is just Saitek Joysticks causing the issue or all Joysticks. I hope Saitek issue a Win 10 driver soon.

That would be rather sad, actually. The newer X45 is a self-calibration unit while mine is the software calibrated version. As in, it's older and less likely to get a driver update. Been there. Done that. Didn't work out with newer drivers, so I had to rollback to the version on my install CD. Older X45 joysticks, like mine, would likely be left unsupported.

It's nice to know your opinion, but a lot of us like our screen savers. Although the original reason for implementing a screen saver was to protect the screen from burn-in, those days are long past. I'm sure that many users don't even remember the days of CRT monitors.

Sometimes I like to come back from a meal and see an interesting animation running on my monitor. Other times, I like to watch something on my TV in a dark room while my computer runs something that takes a long time with a blank screen.

Regarding running unnecessary things and wasting resources on a computer... Let he who is without sin cast the first stone.

I have a Logitech joystick and unplugging that has fixed my issue so it's not just Saitek products.

I will agree, I think I just figured out my problem. It seems to be my old Belkin nostromo n52. Unfortunately at the time I unplugged it, I made lots of other changes at the same time. On top of that I got an update too, So I didn't know what resolved it. I just plugged the nostromo back in and everything stopped working again. I'm so happy this forum was able to help.

Scratch that! It wasn't the nostromo. It was my old PS2 to usb adaptor with the dual shock 2 controller connected.

This is only a guess, but I think the joystick (or game controller) issue only happens if the controller has analog controls which fluctuate. Most controllers seem to rely on potentiometers, but I have seen a pseudo-analog joystick done by using slotted wheels (like an older mouse that still used a ball). Too bad they aren't all made that way, though.
