Looking for a Program that Opens a Folder or Subfolders when You Hover

    To All Program Experts!

Is there a program that will open a folder whenever you hover over its icon?

Let me explain why I need it. I keep all my documents (thousands of them) in a group of folders on my Windows 10 desktop.

It would be awesome if I could just hover over a folder's icon and the folder would open to its immediate right, showing all the subfolders and files inside. Then, when I immediately move my mouse over to the right and hover over one of the subfolders, that subfolder's subfolder will open to its immediate right again. I keep doing this over and over again until I finally reach the file or folder I want. It's sort of like opening a cascading series of folders.

Finally, when I find what I'm looking for, all I need to do is stop hovering over the folders or subfolders, and all the folder lists would automatically vanish (aka. automatically close by themselves).

There must be a program that does something as simple as this, right? Please say yes!!!

I know that Classic Shell sort of does this but you have keep the folders at the start menu and to move from folder to subfolder, you have to click on it. I would love for the subfolder to open automatically by just hovering over it. And, have these folder icons initially located on my desktop. It would make my day.

Do you guys know of a program that does this?

As always I will be eternally grateful and I will address you as "Expert Computer Guru" for the next week. I will also promise you my firstborn and my girlfriend has agreed to give you a massage. Thank you for your help!

Hi, the problem you may face is that hover is effectively dedicated to things like tooltips.

However there is a function provided by (free) Qttabbar by quizo, a file explorer extension that optionally adds tabs, the ability to colour areas of explorer and a lot more.

If you hover over a folder and click on the blue down-arrow, the rest expand automatically if you hover over each item... and in my case, hovering over the final graphic, mp3 (or video) previews it (plays it) with a tooltip. mp3 cover art is displayed if available.

And that disappears if you move your mouse away.

    Pretty close..?

    dalchina,

Thanks for the suggestion. I never thought about QTTab even though I've tried it before. The problem is that first click might prevent me from moving files around. I wanted to create sort of a file tree in which I can quickly place files in it's correct folder.

So, what I would do is grab a file and hover it over a specific folder among the first level of folders. The folder's contents would pop up and I would then hover the file over one of the subfolders. Then its contents would pop up. I would keep on doing this until I would get to the folder that I wanted and drop the file into that folder.

I wanted to do this with RocketDock with StackDocklets but it only pops up only one level of folders.

I was hoping that there would be another program that would do exactly what I wanted to do.

Additionally, I didn't like Classic Start because it's based upon folder lists and I wanted folder contents to pop up as icons.

If you or anyone could think of a program that does this, I would seriously give my left nut for it.

    Edwin,

Is there a way to convert the list into icons? It's not that important but important enough to make it worthwhile for me to spend some time on it.

Do you happen to know a Dock program that could accomplish the same thing like ObjectDock, RocketDock, etc? Those are so much more aesthetically pleasing.

'Fraid not; they're flyout menu's, I don't think they will behave in any other manner.
