Windows 10 1803 New Configuration / Start Menu

It seems that with the new release, Microsoft decided randomly to add Documents and Pictures pinned as icons directly to the left rail when you hit Start/Windows Key. As usual, there's no guidance on how to remove these pinned shortcuts. Honestly, I don't know why they continue to add these "random" features and then post no guidance on how to disable or remove them (for IT Pros who might not think Microsoft's way is the best way).

Any guidance or help would be appreciated.

Go to settings and select Personalisation and the Start section. In there you can choose which folders appear on Start. Windows 10 1803 New Configuration / Start Menu-2018-05-11.png

You can also go straight there by right clicking on the folder icon in the start menu and selecting "Personalise this list"

Right-click the taskbar, from the left panel, click start > scroll to bottom > choose which folder appear on start > toggle folders on or off.

Go to settings, click personalization, then start menu. There should be radio toggles there to turn on/off computer icon, downloads folder, documents, etc.

Thanks... I did figure that much out... but I need to find the Registry key or setting controlling this for the user so that I can customize the default user profile to exclude both Documents and Pictures. When TenForums handles these settings usually, they give us all of the ways (including the Reg keys) that control these settings. I was using ProcMon to try to isolate the keys but can't seem to find the magic key or process for them.

Has anyone found the Registry keys or local policy settings or both that control being able to programmatically control the settings for "Choose which folders appear on Start" within the Personalization control panel? We noticed that with Windows 10 1803, the Documents and Pictures icons are now pinned to the left of the Start Menu as icons and we do NOT want this... but I want to configure it for the default user profile or for the entire system (it's likely a HKCU setting somewhere).

Did you ever find a registry key for this? I'm having the same problem! Thanks. S

Thanks dalchina for the suggestion. Sadly these options do not work for Windows 10 Pro. The search continues! :)

Could be a left-over from previous editions- one I found about restoring the old start menu referred to Win 8 latest I think. Certainly not 10.
