@MrGenius - Apologies for the delayed response to your excellent tutorial and provision of the ActiveBoot files.

The modified file I had prepared worked first time once replaced using the methodology provided and like Pooterman I too am now free of the ugly UAC Shield Icon overlay and thank you for taking the time to respond to my post with such a comprehensive solution which I feel sure will benefit other forum members in this position.

Using nircmd to delete the yellow/blue shield icon

Change your target to something like C:\Windows\nircmd.abc elevate "C:\Program Files (x86)\program"

nircmd is available for free at https://www.nirsoft.net/utils/nircmd.html

Replace the .abc with .com. [Working around Cloudflare blocking my response.]

Ok...so they changed things with 1903. The imageres.dll(s) no longer has any icons in it. I did find where they put them though.

    C:\Windows\SystemResources\imageres.dll.mun

So I used the same method as before(essentially) to remove the shield and arrow with Resource Hacker and IcoFX. And it worked! Yay!!!

Link to the "Attachment 234830" is not working anymore. Is there a mirror link where it can be downloaded?
    Thanks.

It appears to be too large a file to add as an attachment(> 4MB). So they must have changed that since then(and it got deleted). I'll upload it to my google drive instead.

Also of note, 1909 uses the exact same imageres.dll.mun file as 1903. So the one I'm providing will work with either version. See my previous posts in this thread for install instructions.

I know this is an old thread but I'm reviving it because the blue shields came back on a bunch of my icons after the most recent CU and after trying some of the methods listed here (which didn't work for me) I remembered what I'd done to get this to work. This is how I did it:

    1) disabled UAC using Winaero (reboot required)
    2) went to properties of the icons and changed icons back to what I wanted
    3) reenabled UAC using Winaero (reboot required) - I still get the UAC prompt, which I want

    A couple of caveats:
this appears to only work for icons you have on the desktop at the time
only works on shortcuts (if you accidentally delete the shortcut and recreate it the shield comes back).
And yes, this method survives an SFC scan

Don't know what to do with it? Read the thread...
