    Windows 10: Permanent Custom Folder Icon on external USB Flash Drive?

    Hello.
    My question is how can I customize the folder icons on a portable drive like a flash drive? I've learned how to change the drive icon itself, but I want to change the folder icons within the drive directory so that the set icons appear in whatever PC it's connected to.

    I can customize a folder icon by right clicking the folder and selecting properties customize change icon... But this customization only appears on the original system (computer A). When I connect the drive to computer B, the folder icons revert back to the default folder icons. Obviously, computer A retains the setting information, but how do I make the drive retain the settings information so that it displays on computer B like computer A and so on and so forth?

    Thanks for the help!

    Make sure the custom icon(s) resides in a folder on the usb drive itself.

    am i missing something? the drive letter (and the path to the icon) would be different on another computer, I thought I made it clear I want the icon to appear on any and all computers the USB drive is plugged into

    I only highlighted the path just to show that it is a thumb drive.

    You need to put the custom icon, (.ico file), in a folder on the USB drive itself, apply it once on each machine you plug it into, then, after that, you're all set.

    ok I wasn't sure before, but know I know YOU MUST BE JOKING! the reason i asked on the forum is to find out, if at all possible, how to make the icon stay/ do that PERMANENTLY! and not have to do it on each and every PC thats a fools errand, I thought I made that abundantly clear in the description, and apparently I did not, and for that im sorry!

    Okay, then it's not possible!
    New found hardware will, in all probability, fall to defaults first.

    Secondly, how many different machines do you intend to plug this thing into, on an ongoing basis, with the NEED to have custom folder icons?

    not possible on windows 10? cause I did find some that supposedly work on windows 7, something involving a desktop.ini file, but when I tried it didn't work

    around 7 machines on a weekly basis

    It will create an Initialization file, but it has to point to a resource that resides on the drive itself!

    I guess you'll have to customize the USB about 7 times!

    You can do it by using Folder Marker Pro. It has the option "Make customized folder distributable", it makes exactly what you need

    Autorun.inf file contents

    [autorun]
    icon = autorun.ico
    label = Whatever
