Hello, Bill. Just we late nighters up yet. How are you? Your day?
I'm fine thanks. My usual Sunday starting with church. My nephew/Godson and his family were in town so I met up with them and other nieces, nephews, and theirs afterwards for brunch for a great visit. Took a long nap, did some research, writing, and surfing the forum.
I read your post on the Today thread about your work. Yes, someone has to be the glue to keep it all together. My hat tipped to you. :)
Well, it shouldn't be that way this time of my career. But the TV repair business is very hard, and the appliance side pays cheap. It is what it is. Thanks goodness I always saved my money. If we had dilligent techs who showed the care and commitment, it would be better.
Nice you have a big family :)

Yes, a huge family. Sometimes difficult to keep up with.
When did the company get into appliance servicing? Last I knew it was TV only.
Been 3 or 4 years. We had several manufacturers/extended warranty companies asking us, and seemed like a good idea. Well, good thing we did or we'd be out of business. You can't survive on the TV side of the business unless you are lucky enough to be 1st choice for the work. It had to do with accepting lower rates more than being best. That also destroyed the business. Short sighted servicers and greedy manufacturers.
I've never done any actual appliance repair myself. I am versed in the issues and likely fixes, and just certified in sealed system refrigeration repair. Have to be able to support the techs as best as possible.

"Short sighted servicers and greedy manufacturers" meaning service companies under contract with manufacturers and your company is a subcontractor of those short-sighted service companies? Most or all from overseas, especially Asia?
I know CA is heavily regulating pollution. Are your service techs certified as well?
Servicers are independent companies who are authorized by the manufacturer to repair it's product. We don't work for them, they send us work. You contact with them for rates.
Servicers, as in competitors. They took very low rates to get the work, now those rates are all low, and very unlikely to rise if there are always servicers who accept them. Only when most of the servicers are gone, and the manufacturers have no one to fix their sets will it ever change. And every company hanging on by it's fingertips will accept because next choice is bankruptcy.
EPA rules for CFCs and HCFCs are not a California thing, it's a US thing. All refrigerants must be captured and not released into the atmosphere. It's part ot the Clean Air Act

As of yet only 2 techs are certified, I will help another tech get certified Tuesday. We don't need every tech certified as we couldn't afford the equipment to supply every tech in any case.

Don't mean to ignore you Bill. Chatting with my woman friend.
