Afternoon Andre. Hmmm must have been rushing.

Yesterday when I mentioned I had pulled a new cable for my router (heater) TC asked how my bathroom project was going.

I told me wife that TC had asked, she has been very quiet about subject, and she laughed.

    Deadline is Christmas.
    No year mentioned though

    Report!

I've been bouncing around, trying to decide whether to build a new, buy a new or upgrade my current computer. Black Friday and Cyber Monday came up with some deals, most of which were just way beyond my financial health, so . . .

The decision has finally been made. With advice and helpful research from my friends, I've decided to upgrade my HP 500-056 Desktop with the following:

    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

    and this one:

    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

The RAM and graphics card should make this computer work like an almost current one, with a lot less money spent. On the one paw, it was hard to turn loose of the funds for an upgrade, but on the other paw, it made a lot of sense not to spend $650 at a minimum or a maximum of $1,000!

Due to Black Friday and Cyber Monday, the RAM won't be her until Monday and the graphics card won't arrive until Tuesday or later, but I can wait.

I usually don't interfere with someone's decisions, ... but You want to spend 123$ on memory, that is not gonna bring you big improvement and is not transferable to newer system.

You have now 8 GB of RAM (if I remembered it right - it's in your sig) and this is about normally what user needs. More is fine, but won't bring any significant improvement. And ne graphic card is always fine (and it is transferable to new system).

    I see two possible ways:

    1. buy refurbished system with at least i5-4xxx processor and use your RAM and SSD. Graphic in I5 is enough for work, video etc, but not for games. (and add that 4GB RAM you get with system you have 12GB)
    Expenses: 200$

    2. Build new basic system which could be upgraded later:
    - i3-8100 processor (120$) (it is more powerful than i5-7500 and has graphic somewhat 30% slower than GT1050 you mentioned)
    - motherboard 110$ (ASROCK or MSI have MBs at this price)
    - RAM 16 GB 8GB 100$ (insane prices waith few month and buy another one later)
    - case with PSU - approx. 70

    Expenses: around 400$

Both suggestions are far better than you existing system and 2nd gives you a lot of upgrade choices for future...
