Before MS bought Nokia, Nokia WP's where selling well over here, especially the low cost 525 (think it was), they where advertised well on TV, the had over 10% share
After MS bought them, the adverts on TV stopped, the range of handsets got reduced and the phones market share gave up

The App situation (initially, IMO) wasnt a problem, people bought the WP as decent budget phones
