reset password on Win 8.1 ? forgot it yet again Asus X551 M notebook

I went to refresh it, I have copied all my files off by placing the hdd in an external USB case and copying to my other computer, wants my password. Same for Reset or using the Hiren's dvd I have as well.

And it keeps rebooting in an endless cycle of auto repair, which isn't working.

I really want to use Hiren's to fix the boot problem.

Asus X551 M notebook. I did buy another hdd, same 500 gig size, and installed Linux Mint 18.2 on it.

So I can use the notebook/laptop if this isn't solvable.

I did, sadly, look at third party password reset programs. All require me to add USB boot option, which this notebook refuses to do. If I hadn't been able to swap out and make usable a different hdd, I would have taken the original hdd out and tossed the laptop away by this time.

Is this solvable ? Reset my password so I can fix Windows 8.1 ?

Because its Win 8.1, not Win 10. I believe it wouldn't be nice to post it there.

I can boot my Win 10 ocmputer with Hirens; however, it wont look at the Win 8.1 hdd in an external USB holder. I think I need to repair the registry. Its not crashed, just wont work and auto repair doesn't do anything.

Why you no post this in eightforums our very good sister site for 8/8.1?

If you don't have a solution to my question why post an answer ? And they don't seem very active.

Well, the 4 year old, less than 2 years use, hdd has failed. So the question is moot.
