    Digital camera, any buying advice?

I want to take some pictures that are above the quality of most smartphones, but not necessarily something very professional because I don't have too much budget and I am not skilled at photography. A digital camera should be the best choice for me. Does SONY, Canon or Nikon, Fujitsu something , which one makes the best value camera? I have an eye on Canon G7X Mark II in which it's price is acceptable to me and its review is good. Any comment? Could it generally take photos that are much better than the cameras on smartphones? Thank you so much

Canon's are usually good value. Even the most basic camera will out perform a phone because of the lens size, especially in low lighting.

I would always buy one with 10xoptical zoom - beyond that you need a tripod (forget digital zoom claims - you can do in software anyway). Really this is the key differentiator).

Also, if you are buying a compact camera, I would recommend a viewfinder, as you get more precise framing.

Digital camera, camera, SLR, lenses, camcorder accessories - Jessops is a great site with a lot of good advice.
