I voted for option 1. My son's desktop is now the primary Windows box in the house and he is just using the default start menu. I've gotten used to it at work on my work lapppy, so if I was to build a new machine for myself at home, I wouldn't bother with a third party tool.
98% of my personal computer use at home is done on my Mac or my Samsung Galaxy Note 4.
    Thank you, Patrick. :)

I have my Start Screen tiles just about the way I like them. The Start Screen to me is not only a great launching pad, but also a lot of up-to-date, at-a-glance info when there.

I leave All Apps Programs alone - use these for programs occasionally used.
I've eliminated all tiles except weather, have 4 tiles for often used but not daily programs/utilities, the rest are my "toolbox" - Windows configuration and upkeep stuff like Control Panel, Computer Management, Services, Run, cmd, etc.
The taskbar only shows me what's running.
Desktop Icons for programs I use every day. This is a work computer so I also have shortcuts to projects I am currently working on. I prefer a clean looking desktop so to get there i just need to work harder!
I like to keep 3rd party stuff running to a minimum. Just run it as needed.
No toolbars. Don't need "another thing".

Classic Shell 4.30 with the old school menu with a shortcut on that menu to the default menu which I have pruned of tat such as candy crush etc. Also using the dark theme so I can see the information on the screen.
