President Harry S. Truman led the effort to establish a single holiday for citizens to come together and thank our military members for their patriotic service in support of our country.

On August 31, 1949, Secretary of Defense Louis Johnson announced the creation of an Armed Forces Day to replace separate Army, Navy, Marine Corps and Air Force Days.
The single day celebration stemmed from the unification of the Armed Forces under the Department of Defense.

Thanks to all that served/do serve

Because of my YouTube channel, I must have a Gmail account. I have never used it for anything else than to log in to YouTube to post videos, and to log in to my Google AdSense account which I need to get the modest ad revenue paid to me.

Never sent an email from that account, never given it to anyone. In fact, as far as I can recall, I have never even signed in to Gmail.

Today I needed screenshots about setting up a POP3 email account in Outlook. As all my "real" email accounts have already been set up, and as they are all either IMAP or Exchange accounts, today I set up my Gmail account in Outlook (first time ever!) as POP3 account to get the screenshots.

Now Windows is running me nuts, over an hour now it beeps and shows a new mail notification every three or four seconds. Bye bye Gmail, you are gone now from my Outlook, next time I'll check you will be in couple of years never! You may still exist, as before, there on the background. Never checked, never used for anything else than to sign in to YouTube and AdSense, never disturbing me again.

That is the reason I use Gmail in my email application as IMAP. It doesn't add anything to the machine, all archives, deletions and everything are done on the server side. It never actually downloads anything but pictures in the ones you open.

I also use GMail with IMAP. But never ever again will I use any Google services in Outlook because nothing but mail works.

With Outlook I only use MS services. For that it's a beast. Everything just work great together, all in one app.

For everything else I use Windows Mail App and all it's siblings. Works way better than Outlook for all Google Services.

Here Today's Holiday is for a different reason - Now called, in the UK, the "Late Spring Bank Holiday" (Catchy Ain't It). It has for centuries been the Christian Religious holiday of Pentecost or more commonly known as Whitsun.

    Whitsun - Wikipedia

When I was a mere child It was a special time as we all were taken to a big outdoor party organised by the local "Sunday School" It brings back some happy memories of more innocent times.

We thank our Servicemen later in the year on the Sunday closest to The Eleventh Hour, of the Eleventh Day, of the Eleventh Month, - The date of the end of World War One in 1918

I will of course say Thank you for your service to anyone Who have been in the forces on any day
