Me too. I've only been retired 10 years.

Same here only it was more 5am than 6am because the last 10 years before retiring I was up that time for work every day of the year, well apart from Christmas Day, I've been retired now nearly 15 years.

Years ago I worked shift work. A couple of times I woke up got dressed for work and started to leave. My Wife asked me where I was going and I said to work, where else. She said this is your day off. Oh well, had to change clothes again.

All I can say is I never try to go to work on my day off. Every day is a day off.

President Harry S. Truman led the effort to establish a single holiday for citizens to come together and thank our military members for their patriotic service in support of our country.

On August 31, 1949, Secretary of Defense Louis Johnson announced the creation of an Armed Forces Day to replace separate Army, Navy, Marine Corps and Air Force Days.
The single day celebration stemmed from the unification of the Armed Forces under the Department of Defense.
