I took a early retirement when I turned 55. I wanted to wait until I was 62 but our beach loving governor started talking about cutting benefits, raising retirement age and making us contribute more. I had the time(38 years)and the age(55) so I retired while the getting was good. I did get bored and they ask so I went back working two days a week.
Yes, congrats on your retirement, Winuser!

LOL! "Beach loving governor"! That's funny!

Being in construction, soon after the housing bubble burst I took SS at 62 also. Union pension a year later. Retirement is all about overhead and what one can live on. For one, I didn't get caught up with the big houses and the high taxes on them. Bought a little repo-ed 800 sg ft two-bedroom ranch and remodeled it. Cost me far less to run. I also work here and there to keep busy.

I had to take early retirement almost 2 years before and lost good deal of money because of that -0.3% for every month early but I was in dire situation then. It was 65 in Canada and second payment for Old Age pension kicked in on my 65th birthday. So now I'm getting two separate cheques.
    Good for you, Mike!

I just got home from work, to my nice and "cool" apartment.
I closed my windows and shades before leaving for work at 04:50 this morning and now:

I was able to take mine in 1994, 2 months before 55 at 70% of high 3, week later was offered a job in a computer store/shop and started building machines. It was an opportune time, the office moved to another city 6 months after I retired.

This is the result of the interview which I had at Battle Newsagents: Interview result, no hours to offer me and she thinks that it will be too fast paced for me when working on my own, so a work trial is also out of question. Back to the drawing board, never mind.

I'm sorry it didn't work out for you
Keep trying Carl, don't let it get you down, someone will notice that you are willing to work hard.

It makes me kind of angry, that they don't want to hire someone, that really wants to work.

I have often seen people sent to companies, I have worked at, and they do a few days,
and lousy work on purpose so they get sent away,
and they can then keep on collecting their unemployment checks(just because they "tried") and stay home and get drunk all day(damn social parasites).

For 3 weeks now I have been volunteering at this charity shop in Battle, to get some up-to-date work experience. I only do Thursday afternoons at the moment. I am sorting out books, cds and DVDS. But soon Karen the manager is going to train me how to use the till.
