Today we got a estimate to replace our oil furnace with a gas furnace. Our old furnace is over 18 years old and has a few cracks in the heat exchanger so they red tagged it. I saw the cracks so I know they weren't trying to con us into a new heater. I did suspect it because we started getting a faint oil smell when the heater came on. If they get the permits needed it should get installed by Friday.

I have gas heat and it's really great. Keeping in mind I live in TN and it's not that cold during the winter here I pay 18 bucks a month for gas... I'm on the monthly payment plan. When I lived in NJ my parents hated when the guy delivered Oil.. the bill was awful!! NGFD!!

I'm on oil heating here Jeff, there is no gas in the village so it's either oil, electric, log burner or coal fire. Had a new boiler installed last September via a government scheme so it didn't cost us a penny. The one that was in had been installed in 2003 when central heating was first installed here.

The price of oil is gradually going back up here, but so far it hasn't done a great big hike like it did after Katrina. So it doesn't come as a shock I give the oil company a cheque each week to go on my account so when I have an oil fill I have enough money on account to pay for it with some left over to start to build up for the next one.

This is our first gas furnace. We had to go with propane because we're miles from the nearest gas line. Today they setup the tanks and ran the lines. Tomorrow they're installing the heater and hopefully getting all the inspections done so we can use the heater.
