Just back from neurological clinic. Had a meeting with my GP, neurologist and otolaryngologists (ENT doc). In quite a bad mood now when it became official: I will never fly again. It could be too dangerous for me due pressure changes. This has been told me before as "most possible scenario" but as long it was not confirmed, I thought there's a solution / cure.
Why does it make me in bad mood? A simple example: I have a 90 minute drive / train trip to Berlin, from where I can fly to my native, beloved and greatly missed Finland in another 90 minutes. Not being able to fly, the alternatives are either a 4 hour drive to Rostock, a port on German Baltic Sea coast, then 36 hours ferry crossing over the Baltic Sea to Helsinki Finland, or a 24 hour train trip to Stockholm Sweden, then 14 hours on ferry to Helsinki Finland. If I want to make a two days / one night trip to visit my family in Finland, I will need 6 days for the trip. By flying, I would leave early today and be back tomorrow evening.
Not to mention that I can get a return flight with €150, whereas the cheapest return ferry crossing (off season) costs me about €600.
Not a big deal for most, I admit, but for an expat like me it's me devastating news.
Time to make backup, backup and backup! I'm going to revert to Windows 7 unfortunately. My computer is unstable with W10 right now.
That's terrible news Kari, especially all the extra cost involved by not being able to fly. Hope you manage to find an alternative way that doesn't cost as much. :)
