I'm contemplating buying one of these, https://www.adafruit.com/products/1777 If I can figure out how to make it work on a Pi in Python. The tutorial is for Arduino.
I want to do two things. Add a UV index reading to my Astro Pi weather clock. And use the ambient light reading to auto adjust the LED matrix brightness. Dim it for dark background light and bright when in direct sunlight etc. So far I haven't found a whole lot of info for using it on a PI. I posted on the Adafruit forum and they basically said, we don't have any Python code for that device, you'll have to figure it out on your own. That never stopped me before though, lol.

Looks like this is what you need to use that sensor with the RPI: https://github.com/THP-JOE/Python_SI1145

Yeah, I found that with a Google search after I posted. Thanks. I haven't looked at it much as of yet. I haven't ordered the breakout board yet. Probably won't happen until after Christmas. I just wanted to feel out how hard it was going to be to get it running on a Pi, in Python. It will be added to another order I have waiting for funds. I'll likely buy it even if I'm not 100% sure I'll get it working. It's only 10 bucks. I'll play with it on my bread board rig, then if I get it working, permanently wire it up to my weather clock via the Proto hat.

I think that showed up in Jessie (before Pixel) round about when the PI 3B was released. HDMI is I think the default, I have to switch it to analog on my bread board rig to use the speakers.

There are a couple of quick access Icons down there that you'd have to go hunting for in the past.

New Raspbian images are up by the way. 2016-11-25 https://www.raspberrypi.org/downloads/raspbian/ I downloaded but haven't done anything other than that yet.

Here is a pic of my XBMC pi. It was my first pi project. I built the stand for it. Cut down some scraps of polycarbonate and added some misc hardware that was sitting in my basement.

I'm working on a bunch of projects at the moment but I'd like to get a new pi project going this winter. I have a pi zero I picked up at Microcenter last winter. It's been sitting in my drawer. Don't really have a plan for it at the moment. I'm going to read through these threads.

Welcome aboard. That looks like a model B. Oldie but a goodie. A zero will be similar in performance. It should be a little faster actually, 1 GHz CPU versus 700 MHz in the B. Full sized GPIO too.
