Looks like that's the answer. No more uncommanded shutdowns, and I can shut down with the external switch. =)

Some devices can be fussy about HDMI cables. My XBOX for one. If I use cheap ones I get random "failed to detect your TV" messages. You get one cable with the XBOX. Switched that over to the TV side, from the cable box side and the failed to detect TV messages went away. Auto detecting my TV and auto setting up the media Remote became a snap too. Before that it was a PITA. Now I have to get a good one to go from my cable box to XBOX. That side doesn't seem to be so fussy but I still get the occasional failed to detect message. I tried a few cables, all low end bargain bin ones, some work better than others but at some point I'm going to just pony up and get a good quality cable for that side of my XBOX. One I use a lot with my Pi is this one, https://www.adafruit.com/product/2197 I bought it for that 5 inch screen I sold to Jack. It's the perfect length for hooking up my Astro Pi headless Pi's to my TV for code changes and other maintenance. The HDMI 2 jack on my TV is half way up on one end of the TV. It's easy to get at for tinkering with my Pi's.

Jack I think your the only one that uses my sense hat python file, but here's a heads up on what is in my onedrive folder. There are now 3 files.
The THP.py file has no temp adjustment code (just shows what the temp sensor detects) and no GPIO switch code in it. Basically the original file cleaned up and tweaked a little bit.
The THPm.py file has the temp adjust code in it. The ta = (t - 2) t is what the temp sensor detects and ta is what the sense hat displays. Change the 2 to adjust the difference up or down.
The THPs.py file has the temp adjust code and my new GPIO shutdown switch code in it. You likely don't want this one

thanks, for the files, I only need the original actually, I run my sensehat connected to the hack3r board so its not affected from the heat of the PI itself ..

I'm rethinking the way I correct my temps for the heat from the Pi. I have one setup, not in a case, that ran fine all winter with the regular THP file. Temps were within 1 degree c of what my wall thermometer read, as near as I can tell. My potable in the case though was reading about 2 c high. Then I noticed the other one was reading high too? Seems to happen more when ambient temps are high. I'm running the corrected code on both now. I may have to measure the CPU temp and do some math. Or add an externally mounted temp sensor that isn't affected by the heat given off by the Pi's CPU. I have a temp pressure breakout board to play with, that I could mount outside the case on my portable rig. I'll use a 3M double sided sticky pad for testing. It's one I bought way back when I got my first Pi. I'll have to go see if there is python code for it though, been a long time since I've played with it.

Found it, this is what I have, https://www.adafruit.com/product/1603 BMP180. I won't use the pressure part, just the temp sensor. Python library for it too so hopefully it won't be that big a deal to get it up and running. I think I'll hook it up on my bread board rig first, get it working then move it and the new code over to my portable sense hat. That's the plan anyway. That means yet another THP file variant lol.

Not going well so far, getting asked for a username and password for github.com when tying to clone to my Pi?
