There is a small bug in the Windows Pro thou, as I have almost the same problem on both computers. If you leave "Hide protected system operating files" Unchecked, in folder options menu, it still does NOT show them. Now if you also choose "Show hidden files, folders and drives" then it will, along with showing the USB drives I don't want showing. On THIS computer thou, it does not show any USB hidden drives.
    Attachment 104802
I shouldn't think there are many system files that are not hidden also.

Mike, I always understood System Files and Hidden files to be two separate filetypes

They are different in the old Attrib command -H and -S suffixes so should still be separate.

I take it that in the GUI the System files are actually those marked -S -H and the Hidden Files are those marked just -H ( or it could of course be that the -S suffix now means System and Hidden which would mean -S means System which are automatically also marked Hidden and -H means Hidden as always )

The difference with the USB files is likely due to the file formats used on the stick - NTFS has all the flags but I dont think the older FAT formats do
When I am talking about USB drives, they show up on 1 of my computers when there is NOTHING in them. They should not show. They also show in Disk Management, only on 1 of my computers. These are USB drives in a Flash Card Reader. (empty) Nigel :) Not a big issue, but does drive me a little crazy. :)

Both AppDate & Program Data have the Hidden attribute but not the System attribute.

Don't misunderstand me, everything works as it should on my HP computer. I know how to see my hidden folders just fine. Have done it for years and years. These problems I am having are all on my new build. :)

Think I know why too, Windows has installed the drivers for the Flash Card Reader in the wrong location on the new build. This is NOT a Windows problem.....I think its something in the ASUS Bios that is making Windows install the drivers for the card reader in the wrong location. But there are so many pages and options in that bios, it might take me a long time to find the exact right setting. Also got to read the manual a lot more, that is like a BOOK. Tons and tons of features and settings.

Just look for the one labeled "Work now? Yes/No". Click Yes
