    For the original series you would use the following: V=C×W^3 where C= the speed of light ~3×10^8 meters per second. So with this scale, it would take 10.22 hours to travel 1 light year at Warp 9.5.

    Went out into the December night at 2320 hrs and the clouds had temporarily cleared. No wind and quite pleasant. Began my watch, the first geminid I saw was about one second and was 'down' from the radiant. The second was a good one, 2-3 seconds across the sky beneath Orion. The third was magical. Came in under Orion flared up VERY brightly, white light, and was wobbling, (wavy descent) all gone in about 3 seconds!!! All to fast for a camera though. Went back out at 2340, cloud back, waste of time.

    part of a report about next years crews to the ISS:

    When Chari, Marshburn, and Maurer arrive at the orbiting laboratory, they will become expedition crew members for the duration of their six-month stay. The crew will have a slight overlap with the Crew-2 astronauts, who are expected to launch in the spring of 2021. This will not be the first commercial crew mission to overlap. The Crew-1 astronauts, who are currently on station, and the Crew-2 astronauts, also are expected to coincide in their sojourns for a short time. Increasing the total number of astronauts aboard the station is allowing the agency to boost the number of science investigations conducted in the unique microgravity environment.

    But, if they load more astronauts on board - will the ISS fall??

    Yes.

    What you may not be considering is that the ISS is continuously falling on its own b/c of Earth's drag on the station, and the crews apply what is called a boost by firing the station's engines to apply more speed which increases the stations altitude.

    But. You say. I've heard the Moon will eventually increase its distance from the Earth, where are its engines? The difference here is the fact that the Moon has enough mass to create tidal forces on Earth that precede the Moon in its orbit around Earth that pull the Moon along and in turn apply the speed necessary to increase the Moon's orbit. Eventually in a few billion years the Moon will return b/c the tidal forces are no longer acting on it.

    An object in motion will stay in motion unless something pushes or pulls on it. This statement is called Newton's first law of motion. Without gravity, an Earth-orbiting satellite would go off into space along a straight line. With gravity, it is pulled back toward Earth. A constant tug-of-war takes place between the satellite's tendency to move in a straight line, or momentum, and the tug of gravity pulling the satellite back.

    An object's momentum and the force of gravity have to be balanced for an orbit to happen. If the forward momentum of one object is too great, it will speed past and not enter into orbit. If momentum is too small, the object will be pulled down and crash. When these forces are balanced, the object is always falling toward the planet, but because it's moving sideways fast enough, it never hits the planet. Orbital velocity is the speed needed to stay in orbit. At an altitude of 150 miles (242 kilometers) above Earth, orbital velocity is about 17,000 miles per hour. Satellites that have higher orbits have slower orbital velocities.

    I do know that the sun is trying its hardest to drag us all in, but speed of the earths rotations is a counter balance. I also know that the moons of mars, captured asteroids, will eventually hit the planet. and god didnt make those little green apples, it was Newton !!!

    All I got from an hour in the cold air was a still of Orion, not one darn meteorite. Some idiot in NASA said 14th would be the best night. It wasn't, it was the 13th. click a da pica to see it big!
