Aw John, they just got a little excited using the terminology is all.

Did a little digging on your link and; SpaceShipTwo reached: 51.4m 271,268ft 82.7km, one of the later tweets mentioned they reached the planned 50mile altitude target

Outer space does not begin at a definite altitude above the Earth's surface. However, the Kármán line, an altitude of 100 km (62 mi) above sea level,[7][8] is conventionally used as the start of outer space in space treaties and for aerospace records keeping. The framework for international space law was established by the Outer Space Treaty, which entered into force on 10 October 1967. This treaty precludes any claims of national sovereignty and permits all states to freely explore outer space. Despite the drafting of UN resolutions for the peaceful uses of outer space, anti-satellite weapons have been tested in Earth orbit.

I watched them live tweet it (there was no live video) and all the way through they were claiming "space" when in reality they were nowhere near the Karman line.

It's a pointless little craft anyway.

Now, If you really want Outer Space....

It's Official! NASA's Famed Voyager 2 Spacecraft Reaches Interstellar Space

WASHINGTON — It's time to say goodbye to one of the most storied explorers of our age: Voyager 2 has entered interstellar space, NASA announced today (Dec. 10).

Voyager 2, which launched in 1977, has spent more four decades exploring our solar system, most famously becoming the only probe ever to study Neptune and Uranus during planetary flybys. Now, it has joined its predecessor Voyager 1 beyond the bounds of our sun's influence, a milestone scientists weren't able to precisely predict when would occur. And intriguingly, humanity's second crossing doesn't look precisely like data from the first journey out. [Watch: Voyager 2 Reaches Interstellar Space!]

btw: How's the weather over there, catch any Geminids? It's been cloudy over here since Tuesday

Then there's also Comet 46P/Wirtanen, If you can find Orion look a bit to the upper right of that close to the Pleiades, but I have the same problem. Cloudy.
