China says remnants of Long March 5B about to re-enter earth’s atmosphere | Reuters

The remnants of China’s Long March 5B rocket are set to re-enter the earth’s atmosphere at 10:12 a.m. Beijing time (0212 GMT), plus or minus 15 minutes, the China Manned Space Engineering Office said on Sunday.

The debris from the rocket will make its re-entry over a location at longitude 28.38 degrees east and latitude 34.43 degrees north, China Manned Space Engineering Office said in a post on its official social media account.

The coordinates put the point of re-entry somewhere over the Mediterranean Sea.

    UPDATE:

BEIJING (Reuters) - Remnants of China's biggest rocket landed in the Indian Ocean on Sunday, with the bulk of its components destroyed upon re-entry into the Earth's atmosphere, according to Chinese state media.

Parts of the Long March 5B rocket re-entered the atmosphere at 10:24 a.m. Beijing time (0224 GMT) and landed at a location with the coordinates at longitude 72.47 degrees east and latitude 2.65 degrees north, Chinese state media cited the China Manned Space Engineering Office as saying.

The coordinates put the point of impact in the ocean somewhere southwest of India and Sri Lanka.

Most of the debris was burnt up in the atmosphere, it said.

Chinese rocket debris crashes into Indian Ocean - state media - BBC News

Reuters link not working for me

Hopefully there is no damage to the Maldives islands as they have some irreplaceable wild areas on the small islands shown in the landing area

That's weird. A Reuters link not working in the UK?

I'm glad it didn't land in the Mediterranean Sea, though.

Ah. We don't have the log in requirement over here.

I also think it's pretty crazy that China is letting these uncontrolled reentry incidents continue.
Last year the stuff crashed in Africa.

I updated the post with a Reuters article on the the MSN website. Does that link work?

Here is a better article that even the UK should be able to access.
