    Hey guys, question for ya:

I am wondering....... If I upgrade a W8 retail key to W10 on an old system, then move it to another system later, retiring the old system, will I have to use W8, or will it allow me to install W10 on the new system? Anybody know? Do I have to upgrade the W8 key now to get the free upgrade, or will W10 auto-activate with a W8 key, whether it's been upgraded or not? Or will I have to buy an upgrade license?
Is this another one I've misunderstood?

If you upgrade before July 29, you can use the Windows 8 key for installing Windows 10 and it should activate. If you wait until after July 29, your Windows 8 key won't work for the free upgrade.

Depends on whether it's an OEM or Retail too. If it's Retail, heretofore, we could move it around, but had to call Microsoft to get a string of numbers; I've done it several times and they've always done it for me.

It's a retail key. Will MS keep track of it being upgraded and let me move it as W10?

I think so, but probably you will have to call. Then maybe not.

They have it on the activation server as a Digital License/Entitlement, whatever they're calling it today, tied to that retail key. Probably it's what Wynona said...phone cajoling, and all ok.
