    Wearable computing?

Am I the only one that isn't excited about wearable computing (like the Apple watch)? To me, it's just as easy to look at my phone as to look at my wrist (not to mention that I need to put my reading glasses on to see either) so I don't think I need an additional gadget and an additional layer of technology.

Who has one of the new watches and why do you feel it's useful?

Its more convenient to have the watch to me. To look at my phone, I have to fish it out of my shirt pocket inside of my jacket, or my pants pocket. A watch, I lift my arm, there's the time. When its in time mode, its in a font and size that I don't need my reading glasses.
Of course its an Android watch, too. Android stuff seems to place emphasis on usability over style or cool factor.

I already wear an "actual" watch on my wrist so I don't check my phone for the time but it makes me think that a wearable watch probably wouldn't work for me. When I was younger, my watches would last about 1 year no matter what, after a year they would quit working. One day I asked a watch repair guy why my watches only lasted a year and he explained that some people like me have sweat that is too acidic and kills the watch. He advised me to buy a stainless steel watch. Stainless steel watches last me until I decide I want a new one. My current watch is about 10 years old. A wearable with a plastic case would most likely die within a year.

Yeah they're not for me either, I prefer to just use my phone if I need to know the time. When I've worn watches in the past I was forever catching them on things and pulling the strap off/bending the strap pins anyway. Also with these smart watches it's another thing that needs to be constantly charged all the time.

That said, if they vibrate if could be handy for people who do a lot of driving (or already have a lot of points on their licence). Microsoft for example could potentially tie it in with 'Here Drive' navigation on their Lumia's so that it vibrates when you're going over the speed limit. Here Drive already gives a visual and audible speed notifications, but it's possible to miss them. With a vibrating strap, you're going to notice that pretty much straight away.

I have a pocket watch and a smart phone. That's hipster enough for me.

Oh, I thought you meant Wearables, like the ones mentioned here: Adafruit Learning System

    Arduino, leds, Wi-Fi, etc.

Wearable computing is not for me. I'll stay with my wristwatch and smartphone.

I ditched my smaller smartphone for the 6" Lumia 1520. Go figure. :)
