Why Not Wireless HDMI / Display Port Connections?

I saw a video recently that showed a Nokia Lumia 630 wirelessly projecting its screen onto a bigger TV screen, when it suddenly dawned on me, why is there still the need to use wired HDMI or Display Port cables anyway?

Unless I’m mistaken, I think the Lumia uses a technology called MiraCast. However from what I can gather MiraCast has a bit of a delay (around ½ second) when using it, therefore in its current form wouldn’t be acceptable for desktop use, but if they were to eliminate this delay so that it’s no different to a normal wired screen, then surely this is the future?

When you think about it, with large capacity SSD’s forecasted to come down in price in the near future, you could have a small device like the new Dell XPS 13 (or even a mobile phone further into the future) as your main PC which is small, light, portable and easy to move around with, but when at home or at the office, it could be set to automatically connect to your big desktop monitor with full-size keyboard/mouse/stylus. No docking required, it would just need to be somewhere in the house or office within range (or optionally within the pre-determined geo-fenced area). In the case of the phone for example, it could just be in your pocket or sat on a bedside wireless charging stand.

Wireless printing and Ethernet are already available through Wi-Fi, wireless mouse & keyboard are already available through Bluetooth, so surely the last frontier would be wireless display/audio built into all devices, which would eliminate the need for docking/wired connections?

It's a great idea and I am sure not very difficult to implement. It all boils down to connectivity and network speed issues.

    Edit

Sony have partly implemented this with their gaming console PS4 via the device called PS TV. I got one. It's a tiny device. Smaller than my Lumia 1520.

It's a great idea in theory being able to control your PS4 and watch HD movies or play HD games remotely (outside your home). And that is what the PS TV is about. I have a good network speed but it just don't work the way it is supposed to be. The lag is a killer (split second) even though both the PS TV and PS4 are connected to the internet via ethernet cable. Now imagine using wireless connection. This maybe different from what your post is about but the idea is the same. Just pointing out speed issues with HD.
