    HDD isn't right

If SSD means Solid State Drive, shouldn't HDD be changed to MHD?

HDD, Hard Disk Drive, isn't consistant with the technology used to make this device.

I suppose it got its name when the alternative was a RAM Drive, the for-runner of the SSD, but HDD just isn't right.

Its a MHD, Mechanical Hard Drive.
And this is what keeps me up at night.

No. It got it's name when it's immediate predecessor in the spinning data storage arena was the "floppy" disk who's disk materiel was "soft." The spinning platters of a hard drive are rigid made of a materiel which is "hard." The floppy disk drive was/is mechanical as well. naming a HDD "mechanical" would have provided little distinction.

    Take a nap.

PS.. I'm guessing you never had to insert an actual floppy disk (8" or 5 1/4") containing the DOS to boot your computer before hard drives were a thing.

I missed that! My first PC. Was a 8088!! With two 51/4 floppies.
Then my boss got a HD with 10mb of memory space. They all said, 10mb! You'll never fill that in a life time!!

    Cut my teeth on DOS
Ah. The days I spent editing my autoexec.bat and config.sys, trying to load every TSR's in UMB.
