@Ghot Nice buck knife. S30V is a good steel - not so hard that you can't sharpen it like m390 I have. I have a couple of 3.5" blades with S30V.

Well, yeah... you can sharpen it with non-diamond stones, but you're gonna need to pack a lunch.

Yeah. Back in 1976 I got my 1st 110 Folding Hunter (when in the Service). Had it for a loooong time.
It was the standard 110 knife.. 420HC steel, brass bolsters and rosewood handle.
Over the years I used up that blade on that one.

This one is from their custom shop. S30V steel, Nickle bolsters and ironwood handle. I got it mainly for sentimental reasons.

    I meant to say m390 not m1.

I have some S35VN wich is is basically S30V with Niobium added. Still has the edge holding properties and hardness as the S30V, but is easier to sharpen due to the Niobium. I can sharpen that OK with ceramic.

I liked S30V. It's about the middle of the road for all knife blade stats.
Also... Buck only offered 420HC or S30V.
I guess my 2nd choice would be CPM-3V. It's also middle of the road and very high toughness.

I still have my Ruko Elite 0.10 since early 1980s. It made many fishing trips with me. It cost couple hundred bucks back then but worth it. It's still tight as it was new. Using only super fine diamond to sharpen it. Never nicked the blade so nothing rougher is needed.

It was a bit weird when I first tried a diamond stone.
They are very fast, and very little sharpening is needed.

Almost takes the fun out of sharpening.

Yes but leaves no marks and scratches. This one is so fine that I can't feel it with fingers even when dry. Marks on stone (just as old as knife) wore off long time ago and I don't remember what grit. Stone is actually just a stick about 1x1x10cm I also use to tune triggers,

It starts to become impossible to feel above 2000 grit.
    I also have a pocket sharpener that's 8000 grit.

Also, after they break in, it becomes a lot harder to "feel" the grit.

It's amazing how well it cuts although when wet it feels slicker than ice.
