    Continued from post #2138...

My new rocket (Trident) came today. Unlike all the mid power rockets I've built in the last 4 months... this is a low power rocket. It's a remake of a 1968 model.

When it came in the mail, it cracked me up. The entire model rocket "kit" is 12 inches long.
It will build a rocket that's 31.5 inches tall.
Unlike the mid power engines which are: 1.14 inches (29mm) diameter, 4.75 inches ( 120.7mm), long...
the low power engines I will be using are...

    .6875 inches (17.5mm) diameter, and 2.75 inches (70mm) long

Everything is so small... it's cute. LOL

    This rocket is not normal.
In most rockets, the engine goes in the bottom, and after the propellant and delay charge burn... there's an ejection charge for the parachute.

In most rockets... the ejection charge blows straight up the body tube, to deploy the parachute.

In this rocket, the main (center) body tube is in two pieces, so the ejection charge "blows" in the shorter lower tube,
and then is "ducted" up the three skinnier tubes.

The parachute is in the upper center body tube. If all works as it should... this will eject the parachute from the upper center body tube. If things don't work as they should... the ejection charge blows the rocket apart.

This is a smaller rocket (diameter) than the others I've built. To give you an idea of the size... the three skinny tubes on this model are 1/2" in diameter (14mm). The main (center) tubes are about 1" in diameter (27mm).

In the pic below, the top rocket is 2.2" diameter (56mm), and the two bottom rockets are 2.6" diameter (66mm)...

You can buy much bigger flyable model rockets.
Like 7.6" diameter and 113" tall.

    For example...
    Skinwalker
    – LOC Precision / Public Missiles Ltd.

But these are high power rockets and require certifications.
I stayed with mid power rockets, that don't require certs.

Getting the certifications isn't hard, but it can get expensive.
