Is it normal In the USA to rely on the auto box to hold a car? I'm a Manual shift guy as are most of UK drivers and had the routine for leaving the vehicle driven into me when I learned to drive.

Stop car switch off engine, hold car with foot brake if an an incline, apply Hand brake, (parking Brake), select First or Reverse Gear (depending if you are on a hill and which way you are facing relative to that hill), also turn the wheels to an angle that will cause the car to turn away from the traffic flow, should all the above fail

I had to actually sit and think what I do before writing this as It's a instinctive thing for me now
It's very hard to find a new vehicle with manual shift in the US. I was lucky when I was learning to drive more years ago than I want to remember. My dad had a 64 Chevy pickup with a 3 speed transmission. I also learned how to shift without using the clutch.

Wife was in surgery yesterday and I had to sit in the waiting room holding her purse. Decided to just put it in the car and come back to the waiting room. Once I did that the car would no longer allow me to lock the vehicle??? After some thought, the cars "idiot proof" features will not allow you to lock the car with your key fob inside. Removed her fob and put it in my pocket, then the car locked. Duh!!!
One time I left the key in the ignition on my 2005 Ford Explorer and the door locked than a second or two later unlocked. I was in the habit of hitting the lock button when I closed the car door. It was my first vehicle with a key fob.

Getting back on subject. My last online purchase was very exciting! I ordered a 5 1/4" drop ball hitch for my pickup so I could pull my utility trailer without the tail end dragging the road. I was surprised to find out how much higher my 2017 Ram is compared to my 2009 GMC.

I have a FOB with keyless entry/start - as long as the key is in the proximity of the car I can touch the door handle to unlock/lock doors or start with car with a push button. That said, I found that I can't lock the car with the keys inside. When I try to "touch" lock the car, it won't work with the keys inside.

Back to PC's - I don't see me getting any new PC upgrades for a while as I adjust to now having a car payment. That said, still trying to find one of these...

    I too have keyless entry/start on a Volvo S60
To lock the car while inside the vehicle with the key....there is a control panel on the door arm rest with this facility.

I'm obviously speaking from "outside" the car with the keys inside. Of course you can lock the doors from inside the vehicle. I thought that was a given. I guess not
