I remember one of these situations.

    1. There were no commercially available TVs.

    2. We were too poor to buy a TV. I may add apparently my Parents friends were too poor also as I had never seen one.

I seem to recall reading that TVs existed in the 1920's. I find it hard to believe they were commercially available then though. The first one I recall seeing was probably in the mid to late 1950's.
First TV as we know it was introduced in Toronto world exhibition in '20s. Later on it was something like Arpanet was for internet, just for come closed circles. In UK there was some public service just before WWII but killed when war started. Germans did same thing at same time. During WWII it was used for guiding bombs and in the incident when oldest Kennedy son was killed in a B17 converted into a guided flying bomb accident.

I remember our first televison in the early 1950s. I saw a show called Captain Kangaroo in black and white, along with some other show called 'Its Howdy Doody Time !'. Also in black and white.

Only NBC had color programming due to them owning the patents. CBS and ABC had to sue them in federal court to get access.

If he was a Ham Radio operator, he just might know my uncle Sam. Sammy Fields.
I have my uncles old ham radio, took it to a bunch of places in Dallas, TX to have it repaired, every repair man said sorry, Sam Fields worked on this, we don't know what he did to make it work without the tubes.

I remember no TV, analog phones with rotary dial, going to post office to make long distance calls, cars with split windshields, suicide doors and vacuum vipers, airplanes with propellers, milk in glass bottles, slide rules and mechanical typewriters. Wooden boats and outboard motors without a cowl. Reel tape decks and gramophone turntables. My first car had 8-track.
